Prior to observations, a mixture of rimed snow (needles) and possible freezing drizzle occurred. The precipitations were unrelated to the incoming weather system and were possibly due to the remains of the previous system (event #7) Observations began in the morning at 9:10 on 28 march, very light snow observed at 9:15. The snow continued to fall, lightly at times, until 2:30 on 29 march. At that time, ice pellets mixed with rimed ice crystals were observed. This went on for intermittent periods until 4:50. From 4:50 to 16:00, intermittent snow or light snow was observed. Microphotography was attempted every 10 minutes, but was not always possible if the precipitation melted too quickly or were blown away by wind. During this event, nine weather balloons were launched (at 17:17, 20:13, 21:45, 23:14 UTC on march 28 and 2:21, 5:13, 8:12, 11:31, 14:15 UTC on march 29).
